Phil Barnes Leading CapitalMark’s Wealth & Trust Group
Chattanooga, TN – September 16, 2011 – CapitalMark Bank & Trust announces the addition of Phil Barnes who will lead CapitalMark’s Wealth & Trust group, which is approaching $100 million in total assets. Barnes stated: “CapitalMark’s model is oriented toward clients seeking a private-bank experience, and the Trust group is a perfect complement. Clients who require comprehensive advice regarding planning, estate or trust services will be well-served by a seasoned team collectively holding over 150 years’ industry experience and anchored by veteran advisor Al Secor. In an environment of bank consolidation, there is opportunity for both clients and our bank in the Trust arena. We continue to deliver a Wealth & Trust experience like the days of-old when consultations were in person and client relationships were cultivated over decades. Further, our approach in Wealth & Trust mirrors the close, advisory client experience delivered by our Banker Teams.”
Barnes is a 33-year banking veteran, most recently spending 20 years with a regional bank and its predecessors. Barnes has served in a variety of roles spanning management, administration and sales in both Trust and Private Banking. Barnes received a Bachelor of Arts from Covenant College and successfully completed graduate studies with University of Virginia’s International School of Lending, University of Delaware’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking and Vanderbilt University’s Corporate Finance Course in Mergers and Acquisitions. Barnes has held licenses Series 7 and 66.
Jim Vavalides, CapitalMark’s General Banking Head, stated: “We are extremely pleased to have Phil lead our Wealth & Trust efforts in East Tennessee. The dynamic combination of Phil Barnes and Al Secor portend continued positive results from our team. Further, the addition of Phil supports our model and vision for the bank – to deliver high-caliber advice and care to discerning clients who expect an elevated level of service and seek a long-term Trust and banking relationship.”
